Below are resources for Cisco UCCE OEM Partners that are preparing to certify their products against Windows 2008.

  • Overview

In the following sections we give you information including the use cases detailing the process customers must follow to perform a fresh installation, common ground upgrade and technology refresh upgrade for UCCE, CTIOS, and other installers, onto Windows Server 2008 R2.

The upgrade procedure would be the same as in the past (one side at a time), which is documented in the Version 8.0(1) Upgrade Guide for ICME and CTI OS for Cisco Unified Contact Center Enterprise; That upgrade guide is being re-released to include the Windows Server 2008 R2 information.

Note: At this time, we do not believe there will be any complications of having one side running on W2003 and the other side running on Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • MR location is mandatory for Windows Server 2008 R2

The following 8.0(1)A base installers have been updated to force the user to apply all of the Windows Server 2008 R2 specific fixes to the system: UCCE, Admin Client, and CTIOS Server.  When you install or upgrade with the 8.0(1)A installer, if you choose to apply a MR patch ('optional' on Windows Server 2003 systems, 'mandatory' on Windows Server 2008 R2 systems), you must specify the MR patch location in the 'text box' of the Installer; Once the MR patch location is specified in this window on Windows Server 2008 R2 systems the Next button is enabled, which allows the installation process to continue.

The following 8.0(1)A base installers optionally allow you to enter an MR to be automatically applied after installation and reboot: CTIOS Silent Monitor and Cisco Data Store. The reason that it is optional for these products, is that there were no changes to the installer to support Windows Server 2008 R2 (it works out of the box), so it isn't necessary to force them to apply a patch.

Some MR name validation is performed when the Next button is clicked. The installer verifies that the file exists, the name starts with "ICM" or "CTIOS", the major version is 8, and the version is 8.5(2) or later (which contains the Windows Server 2008 R2 compatibility fixes (for UCCE, Admin Client, and CTIOS Server).

  • Fresh Installation

  • Common Ground Upgrade (Not Supported)

Microsoft Windows does not support an "in place" upgrade from a 32bit OS to a 64bit OS (ie Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2). Therefore, there is no Common Ground UCCE upgrade available for 8.5(2) on Windows 2008. Instead, use the technology refresh upgrade for this migration (technology refresh includes hardware (optional) and operating system).
