Tip: Adjunct Licensing

Cisco Unified Communications Manager (and not Cisco Unified Presence) controls licensing for client applications. To license client applications such as Cisco Unified Personal Communicator, go to Cisco Unified Communications Manager and select System > Licensing > Capabilities > Assignment. When you make your assignments, Cisco Unified Communications Manager will deduct the Device License Units (DLUs) from the pool of available licenses.
Client application features consume different number of DLUs - as this table shows:
| Client Application Feature | DLUs Consumed | Product Acronym in Licensing File |
|---|---|---|
|
Phone Presence |
1 |
CUP |
|
Sign in to Cisco Unified Personal Communicator |
1 |
CUPC |
|
Cisco Unified Personal Communicator as a Soft Phone |
3 (or 1 with adjunct licensing*) |
UPC |
- * Adjunct licensing is supported in Release 6.x and higher releases of Cisco Unified Communications Manager. The feature allows you to associate a soft phone (such as Cisco Unified Personal Communicator) with a desk phone. The soft phone association consumes only one DLU instead of 3 DLUs.
