Performance may decline on Unified Computing Systems with RAID and battery backup
|Problem Summary||System performance declines significantly with no apparent cause.|
|Possible Cause|| Normally, a Unified Computing System (UCS) with a RAID disk controller and battery backup operate in a disk buffering mode that buffers content in the RAID controller and later writes updates to the disk in batches. This greatly improves disk performance.
However, if the batteries in the battery backup are operating below what the system considers sufficient, the RAID controller falls back to disk write-through mode. Disk write-through mode requires that every disk write is actually written to disk and not buffered. This can have a considerable effect on disk, and therefore, system performance.
