Finesse IPPA: Idle phones display Host not found

Problem Summary

When idle, phones display "Host not found".

Error Message

"Error" and "Host not found"
Or
"Idle Application" and "Host not found"

Possible Cause

Error with the Idle Display URL configuration for the phone.

The following are potential issues that can cause the error:

  •  If the Idle Display URL uses FQDN, there may be a DNS issue, or the IP address may not exist.
  • The Idle Display XML file may not exist or may be improperly configured.

The Idle Display URL is configured in two places:

  • For a single phone: Idle field in the Phone Configuration window in Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration.
  • For multiple phones simultaneously: URL Idle field in the Enterprise Parameters Configuration window in Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration. This applies to all phones in the system, but the single phone configuration overrides this value.

Note: The Idle Display is an optional XML service that the phone invokes when the phone is idle for a designated period and no feature menu is open. For example, the phone can display the company logo when idle.

Recommended Action

If you are using an Idle Display URL, be sure that the URL is correct. If the URL uses FQDN, make sure that the DNS server can resolve this FQDN.

If you do not require the Idle Display, make sure that there is no Idle Display URL configured for the phone. Also make sure that the Idle Timer field is blank.

Alternatively, if you use an Auto-registration Template in Unified CM, see the following for a potential resolution: https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/12332916/service-applet-pops-phone-idle-application-showing-phone-host-not-found
