About Upgrading to Release 6.1

Directory Services Release 6.1 supports the upgrades of Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services Release 4.2.7.25 or a later release, while keeping the Directory Information Base (DIB) intact.

Prerequisites for Upgrading

Upgrading to Release 6.1

To upgrade to Directory Services Release 6.1, complete the following tasks:

  1. Install the software. See the To Install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services Software.
  2. (Optional) Verify the installation. See the To Verify the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services Upgrade.

To Install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services Software

Caution! If there are other gateways on the server, then stop all Cisco Unified MeetingPlace services on this machine, before upgrading to Release 6.1 Directory Services. Manually start all Cisco Unified MeetingPlace services after the upgrade.

  1. Log in to the Windows server by using an account that meets the criteria specified in Service User Account.
  2. Insert the Directory Services CD into the Windows server CD-ROM drive and click Next.
  3. (Optional) If the installation wizard fails to start (for example, autorun is disabled), complete the following steps:
    1. Choose Run from the Windows Start menu.
    2. Enter x:\directoryservices.exe, where x is your CD-ROM drive letter.
An information window appears to verify that you are upgrading from a supported version of Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services Release 4.2.7.25 or a later release.
    3. Click OK and wait while the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services files are extracted.
  4. From the Choose Destination Location screen, click Next to accept the default directory, or to specify a directory, click Browse.
Note: We recommend that you accept the default installation directory to ensure compatibility with the file path information contained in the default configuration files that are supplied with Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services.
  5. In the Enter Password window, enter and reenter the password that allows you to log in to this Windows server. This account must have local administrative rights.
NOTE: The Windows password cannot contain the following characters: < and >.
  6. Enter and reenter the password that you are currently using to access the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services Admin console in the fields provided.
  7. From the Choose Destination Location window, click Next to accept the default directory for your suspense files or click Browse to specify a directory.
  8. To begin the upgrade process, click OK.
  9. When prompted, reboot your computer.
  10. By using the same account that you used in Step 5, log in to the Windows server.
After you log in, Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services begins migrating your existing database to the new installation. This process may take some time, depending on the size of your existing database. When the migration process finishes, the upgrade is complete.
To Verify the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services Upgrade

After you upgrade, we recommend you verify that your existing Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services database has been integrated.

  1. From the Windows Start menu, choose Programs > DC Directory Administrator.
  2. Log in to the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services Admin console.
  3. In the left pane of the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services Admin window, expand the Directory node and the comp.com node. Verify that the People directory contains the correct number of users who are migrated from your previous Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services database.
  4. To view the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace server icon, choose Manage > Domain.
  5. To display the Server Management window, double-click the server name.
  6. To display the MetaLink list for the server, choose Server > MetaLink.
  7. Verify that your existing Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services MetaLinks have been migrated to the new installation.
