The Cisco MCS on which you install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server will be reformatted during the installation. We suggest using an unformatted server.
Before You Begin
Complete all the tasks in How to Prepare to Install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server.
- Insert the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server installation DVD into the DVD-ROM drive of the Cisco MCS on which you are going to install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server.
- Boot the computer from the DVD.
- The system completes a number of checks, including checking that your platform is valid, that you have an existing operating system, and completing a media check.
- Note: The media check can take up to 15 minutes.
- The system checks the hard drive, the BIOS, and the RAID. If it needs to reconfigure any part of the system, it displays two green circular arrows next to the component name and automatically reboots. After rebooting, the installation process restarts at the checks. You can skip the media check if you have already done it.
- Note: Depending on your system configuration, the system may reboot up to three times. This happens automatically.
- Installing the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Linux operating system from the DVD takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
- When the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Linux operating system installation is complete, keep the DVD in the DVD-ROM drive but do not close it.
- The system reboots automatically.
- Click Next from the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Welcome page.
- Enter values in the following fields on the Network Setup page. All fields are required except for the Mail Server and Secondary DNS fields:
- Caution! Be sure you enter the correct network setting information here. If you need to change any of this information after the installation is complete, you must use the net command. See Command Reference for information about using the net command.
- Click Next.
- Select the Time zone that best represents where the system resides.
- Ensure that the checkbox next to System clock uses UTC is checked then click Next.
- Set the date and time.
- Caution! Be sure you enter the correct date and time. You must reinstall the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Linux operating system and application if you need to change the date or time of your server in the future. Never change the clock to correct a time zone setting.
- (Optional, but highly recommended) Synchronize the clock on your computer with a remote time server by completing the following steps.
- Caution! If you do not enable your system to use a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server, your system will depend on the internal clock of the Application Server. This internal clock can drift over time and can cause serious problems with your Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system.
- Click the Network Time Protocol tab.
- Check Enable Network Time Protocol.
- Enter the address of the NTP server.
- Click Add then click Next.
- Click Next again when prompted.
- When the system displays the Cisco Application DVD page, close the DVD-ROM drive and click Install....
- Wait a few minutes while the installer loads following the prompts as they display.
- Verify the DNS values you entered in Step 4.
- From the Review Current eth0 Network Settings page, review the values, correct if necessary then click Next.
- Caution! If you change the primary or secondary DNS server address, you may experience errors. We do not recommend that you change those values here. If you do change the values and experience problems, see DNS Entry Problems.
- From the Review Current DNS Network Settings page, review the values, correct if necessary then click Next.
- From the Review New Network Settings page, review the values, correct if necessary then click Next.
- Note: Changing the values on these pages overwrites the values you entered earlier.
- When the Configure NIC Settings page appears, complete one of the following:
- If your system uses Auto Negotiation, click On.
- The system automatically takes you to Step 15.
- Note: Changing this value here overwrites the value you entered earlier.
- (For systems that do not use auto-negotiation) Set the Speed (Full Duplex) and Duplex mode values then click Next.
- Note: Review these network setting values carefully. Changing the values here overwrite the values you entered earlier. If you need to change them after the installation is complete, you must use the net command. See Command Reference for information about the net command.
- Enter the requested passwords and PINs in the Password Panel section.
- Passwords must be at least eight characters and can contain any printable ASCII characters.
- Passwords are case-sensitive.
- Release 7.0.3 requires that you enter a PIN for the default web administrator. The PIN must be at least eight digits.
- Click Install.
- The installation can take between 7 to 25 minutes.
- When the installation is complete, the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace installer displays the Install Complete page.
- Click Done to finish the installation.
- The DVD-ROM drive ejects the DVD.
- Remove the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace DVD.
- If you did not make any changes to the network settings in Step 12, the Cisco Application DVD page appears. Proceed to Step 19.
- If you did make changes to the network settings, your system automatically restarts. When it comes back up, the system displays the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace operating system login page and the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system is now completely installed.
- Click Next.
- Click Reboot.
- The system reboots and then displays the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace operating system login page.
