How to Install Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway

Note: You must install and configure your Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway release on the primary and on any secondary backup gateway servers.


To install Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway, perform the following procedures in this order:


Preparing to Install

Before you install Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway, plan your installation by completing the worksheet in the following table. After you complete this worksheet, print and refer to it when you install and configure your Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway.


Note: If you are planning to install Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway against a network file server, also read the Preparing to Install Against a Network File Server.

Caution! Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway Release 5.3 is not compatible with Cisco Security Agent. We recommend that you do not install Cisco Security Agent on a gateway server where Network Backup Gateway Release 5.3(x) is or will be installed. If Cisco Security Agent is installed on an end-user system, users will see a security alert when they attempt to use the application-sharing feature. Users can choose to proceed with the feature and use application-sharing without difficulty.

2. On how many backup gateway servers will you install Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway?

Choose one of the following:
  • One-the primary backup-gateway server
  • Two-the primary and a secondary backup-gateway server
  • Three-for added protection against failure of the primary and secondary backup-gateway servers
    Tip: In most cases, one or two backup gateway servers suffice.

3. Will Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway be installed with other Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system software? If so, which software?

If you installing other Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system software, make sure that it is compatible with your Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway release.
Note: Before you install multiple Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system software on the same server, ensure that your system meets the requirements for integration. 4. Which Windows user account will Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway use to log in?

This user account must have full control-read, write, create, and delete access to the backup folder.
Note: Do not use the local system account or any account with administrative privileges.

If you are installing Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway on more than one backup-gateway server, what are the fully qualified pathnames for each installation?

6. Where will the temporary folder be located? What is the fully qualified pathname?

This folder holds the temporary files that are created, copied, and deleted by your Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway.
If you are installing and configuring Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway on multiple backup-gateway servers and are using a temporary folder on an NFS, then each Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway configuration must have its own temporary folder on the NFS.
If you are installing Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway on multiple backup-gateway servers, what are the fully qualified pathnames for each folder?
Note: Allow 1 GB for each temporary folder.

7. Which folder will hold the backup files? What is the fully qualified pathname?

This pathname can be to a local drive or an NFS.
Note: If you configure Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway to backup to a directory that is located on an NFS, you must identify this directory by using the Uniform Naming Convention (UNC), such as \\server\directory, instead of using a drive mapping, such as drive:\directory, which is not available after system startup unless a user who uses that drive mapping logs in, thereby making the backup directory unavailable until such time.
If you use more than one backup-gateway server, all files can be backed up to the same network folder.
If you install Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway on multiple backup-gateway servers and backups are made to local drives, what are the fully qualified pathnames for each backup folder?

8. How many backups do you need to store at a given time?

You must have at least one backup file, but you can have as many additional backup files in the backup folder as space allows.

9. Is there enough disk space for the backup files?

Note: Allow approximately 1 GB for each backup file, as well as 1 GB for each backup folder-both temporary and permanent.

Preparing to Install Against a Network File Server

If you are installing Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway against a Network File Server (NFS), make sure that you can answer the following in addition to the information in Table: Preinstallation Worksheet for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway:


Is the Cisco MCS in a domain or workgroup?

  • If the Cisco MCS is in a workgroup, NFS may not work. Verify that you are able to browse the account on the target server.
  • If the Cisco MCS is in a workgroup, verify connectivity. If the device is isolated, that is, you cannot browse for users on the target machine, you will not be able to use an NFS.


Prior to installing against an NFS, make sure that you have the following:

  • The logon account that is required to map the NFS Share in the format Servername\Username.
  • The proper file structure on the target device for your temporary and backup files. A typical file structure looks like the following:
C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\MeetingPlace Backup with TEMP and BACKUP folders residing beneath as subfolders.
  • Proper rights to write the temporary and backup files on the target device.
    • For an NFS this will require a local account with write access to the TEMP and BACKUP directories.
    • This account will need to be applied to the MeetingPlace Backup Service prior to running the backup
    • The full UNC path for the planned NFS in the form of \\Target machine\Target folder


Installing Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway

Before You Begin


Procedure
  1. If Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing is installed, stop the Cisco MeetingPlace Web Conferencing master service; then, stop any additional Cisco MeetingPlace system services.
    1. From the Start menu, choose Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
    2. Right-click Cisco MeetingPlace Web Conferencing and choose Stop.
    3. To stop other Cisco MeetingPlace system services, right-click the service and choose Stop.
    4. Close the Services window.
  2. Insert the installation CD into the CD-ROM drive and click Next.
    The InstallShield wizard begins.
    (Optional) If the installation wizard fails to start, perform the following steps:
    1. Choose Start > Run.
    2. Enter x:\setup where 'x is the CD-ROM drive.
    3. Click OK.
  3. Use the information in Table: Preinstallation Worksheet for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway to help you proceed through the installer.
  4. When you are prompted for the temporary and backup file locations, keep the following in mind:
    1. If you choose the defaults and later want to make changes, you must stop the Gateway SIM service before making any changes.
      Note: Stopping the Gateway SIM stops all other installed gateways.
    2. If using an NFS, click Logon Settings and specify your NFS account and password.
      Note: The MeetingPlace Backup Service also requires NFS account information postinstallation.
  5. Continue clicking Next until you are finished installing.
  6. (Optional) If you are prompted for the MeetingPlace Server information, do the following:
    1. Specify the hostname or IP address of the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server system.
    2. Specify the hostname or IP address of the local Cisco MCS Server.
    Note: You are prompted for the MeetingPlace Server information if the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway is the first gateway to be installed. The information you provide is used to configure the Gateway SIM.
  7. When setup is complete, exit the setup program by clicking Finish.


About Configuring Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway

You specify the following parameters during Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway configuration:

  • The temporary and permanent folders to which the backup files will be saved
  • The maximum capacity of the backup folder
  • The maximum number of backup files that will be saved in the backup folder


All backup files are placed in the specified folder, and each backup file is given a unique name that contains the Ethernet address of the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server system and a timestamp of the backup. Because each backup filename is unique, multiple backup files do not overwrite one another. A typical backup file is large, up to 1 GB, and each backup file is kept until the Maximum Number of Backups limit is reached, at which time the oldest file is overwritten during subsequent backups.


Backup File Example

The following example shows the contents of the backup folder M:\MeetingPlace backup\BACKUP. This folder contains three separate backups. Each backup consists of a backup descriptor file, which has the filename extension .dat, and a data file, which has the filename extension .tgz.


The Ethernet address of the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server system is 0001af03b786, and the last backup was on 10/21/2003 at 12:06:49 AM (20031021000649).

How to Configure Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway

To configure Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway for your release, perform the following procedures in this order:


Configuring Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway to Log On for Back Up to a Network File Server

If you back up to an NFS, you must configure Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway to log in with an ID that has privileges to write files to the NFS.


Procedure
  1. From the Start menu, choose Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Services > Services.
    The Services control panel opens.
  2. Right-click MeetingPlace Backup and choose Properties.
    The MeetingPlace Backup Properties (Local Computer) window opens.
  3. Choose the Log On tab.
  4. Click This account.
  5. Enter a user ID and password for the NFS and click OK.
  6. Restart backup gateway server.


Configuring Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Gateway SIM

Note: The temporary backup file destination that you specify for the Gateway SIM must match the location that you specify in the Configuring Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway to Transfer Files. If you change the location of the temporary folder, ensure that you change the location in the Gateway SIM and the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway configuration settings.


By performing the following steps, configure the Gateway SIM to allow the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server system to transfer files to the temporary folder. If you installed Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway on multiple backup-gateway servers, configure each Gateway SIM.


Procedure
  1. If Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing is installed, stop that service first; then, stop all other Cisco MeetingPlace system services, including Gateway SIM, by performing the following steps:
    1. From the Start menu, choose Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
    2. Right-click Cisco MeetingPlace Web Conferencing and choose Stop.
    3. Right-click each additional Cisco MeetingPlace system service and choose Stop.
    4. Close the Services window.
  2. Choose Start > Programs > MeetingPlace Applications > MeetingPlace Gateway Configuration.
    The MeetingPlace Gateway Configurations window opens.
  3. If you are configuring a new Gateway SIM, click Add.
    or
    If the Gateway SIM has been configured for other Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system services that are installed on this backup-gateway server, double-click the name of the server in the left field of the MeetingPlace Gateway Configurations window.
    The MeetingPlace Server Entry window opens.
  4. Enter your network information in the fields, as described in Table: MeetingPlace Server Entry Fields.

Field Task

Server Name

Enter the name of the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server system.

Shadow Server Name

This field is not used by Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway.

Note: Do not change any information in this field.

Client IP Address

Enter the IP address of the backup-gateway server on which you are installing Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway.

Transfer Destinations

Enter the fully qualified pathname to the temporary folder in which you want to back up the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server system database files.

Note: If you enter multiple locations, separate each one with a semicolon (;). Do not enter a space after each semicolon. Use a backslash character (\) to separate each part.

Link Encryption Disabled

To encrypt communications between the Gateway SIM and Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server system, ensure that this box is not checked.


Encryption uses a 56-bit DES algorithm with a secret key.


To send communications in clear text, check the Link Encryption Disabled box.

Note: We do not recommend sending communications in clear text.

5. To accept the settings, click OK.

6. In the MeetingPlace Gateway Configurations window, click OK.

7. Restart the backup gateway server.

Note: The Gateway SIM requires TCP ports to be open between the backup gateway server and the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server system. If the ports are open and the server can be resolved though either IP or Host Name, the Gateway SIM connects automatically to the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server system.


Configuring Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway to Transfer Files

You must configure Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway to transfer files from the temporary folder on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server system to the backup folder on the backup gateway server.


If you are backing up to an NFS, you must also enter the logon ID for the Windows account that has access to the NFS server.


Procedure
  1. On the desktop of the backup-gateway server, choose Start > Programs > MeetingPlace Applications > MeetingPlace Backup Configuration.
    The Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Backup Configuration window opens.
  2. Enter your network information in the fields, as described in the following table:

Field Task

Backup directory-specifies the folder where the backup files are placed.

Enter the fully qualified pathname.


This pathname can be to a folder on the local drive or on an NFS.

Note: If you configure Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Network Backup Gateway to backup to a directory that is located on an NFS, you must identify this directory by using the UNC, such as \\server\directory, instead of using a drive mapping, such as drive:\directory.

Temporary Directory-contains the temporary backup files that are created, moved, and deleted during the back up process.

Enter the fully qualified pathname.

Note: This folder must be the same one that you specified in the Configuring Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Gateway SIM.

Maximum Number of Backups-specifies the maximum number of backup files that can be stored at one time in the backup folder.

Enter the maximum number of backups.


The minimum is 1. The maximum number depends upon the amount of available space on the backup location.

3. If you are backing up to a local drive, go to Step 4.

or
If you are saving files to a network drive, configure the login settings:
a. In the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Backup Configuration window, click Logon Settings.
b. Click This account.
c. Enter the user ID, password, and password confirmation of a Windows account that has the correct permissions to save files to the network drive. The Windows password cannot contain the characters < or >.
Tip: You may need to use the format MY_DOMAIN\my_username.
d. To accept the Service Log On Settings, click OK.

4. In the MeetingPlace Backup Configuration dialog box, click OK.

5. When prompted to update the service configuration, click Yes.

6. To restart the backup gateway server and apply the changes, click OK.
