Note Note:
  • If you have more than 10,000 users in Cisco Unified Communications Manager, you must use the 5,000 user OVA template at a minimum, even if you plan to license less than 5,000 users of IM and Presence.
  • The recommendations below only apply to single cluster deployments. For multi-cluster deployments, it is recommended that you use the 5000 user VM configuration at a minimum.

Notes on 500 user VM configuration

This is a minimal VM configuration for use with Cisco Hosted Collaboration Solution.

Maximum capacity:

  • 500 Full UC users
  • 1000 IM-only users
  • 6 single nodes or sub-clusters


This VM size can be used when performing a DRS migration from a non-virtualized/physical server with a disk capacity of 80 GB or less (e.g. MCS-7825-H2).

If you are migrating from a physical server with more than 80 GB of storage space to a virtual machine with a user deployment size of either 500 or 2000, see the Disaster Recovery System Administration Guide for more information.



Notes on 1000 user VM configurations

Maximum capacity:

  • 1000 Full UC users
  • 2000 IM-only users


This VM size can be used when performing a DRS migration from a non-virtualized/physical server with a disk capacity of 80 GB or less (e.g. MCS-7825-H2).



Notes on 2000 user VM configurations

Maximum capacity:

  • 2000 Full UC users per node
  • 2000 IM-only users
  • 3 single nodes or sub-clusters



This VM size can be used when performing a DRS migration from a non-virtualized/physical server with a disk capacity of 80 GB or less (e.g. MCS-7825-H2).

Notes on 15000 user VM configuration

Maximum capacity:

  • 15,000 Full UC users
  • 25,000 IM-only users
  • 6 single nodes or sub-clusters



This VM size can be used when performing a DRS migration from a non-virtualized/physical server with a disk capacity of 80 GB or less (e.g. MCS-7825-H2).


IOPS and Storage System Performance Requirements

Expect similar peaks as Cisco Unified Communications Manager during backups and upgrades.

The 1000 user VM configurations generates about 60 IOPS during steady-state.

For VM configurations supporting more than 1000 users, plan for 160 IOPS during steady-state.
