| - | + | A virtual machine template defines the configuration of the virtual machine's virtual hardware. Open Virtualization Format (OVF) is an open standard for describing a virtual machine template, and Open Virtualization Archive (OVA) is an open standard to package and distribute these templates. Files in OVA format have an extension of ".ova". | |
Cisco Unified Communications applications must use one of the supported virtual machine templates in the table below. For most applications, a preconfigured OVA file is provided by Cisco and must be used. Otherwise the customer must manually build OVA files that meet the indicated requirements. | Cisco Unified Communications applications must use one of the supported virtual machine templates in the table below. | + | For Specifications-based deployments, please note both the CPU core count AND the CPU core speed both of which correspond to physical CPU cores and physical CPU core speeds. Both are required to be met to support a full load VM OVA. At this time, only core speed for full load is defined. Do not use lower physical CPU core speeds until Cisco defines minimum speed for lower load levels. Cisco TAC will not troubleshoot a VM that is not receiving sufficient CPU cycles. | ||

Supported Virtual Machine OVA Templates
A virtual machine template defines the configuration of the virtual machine's virtual hardware.
Recall that virtual MAC addresses may be auto-configured by VMware, or manually configured by you. If you manually configure them, remember to ensure each VM has a unique MAC address.
Note that vDisks are for "thick provisioning" at the VM level. For "Thick" vs. "Thin" provisioning and UC support policy, see Shared Storage Considerations.
Note that users is in the context of using the Cisco Unified Communications Sizing Tool and the design guides for the indicated user count at a particular BHCA, number of devices per user, device mix per VM, etc. Actual capacity and total supported devices will be design-dependent; please follow all rules in the design guides and sizing tools.
Note that virtualization support details may vary by UC app. Make sure your deployment follows all the rules in the "Useful Links Summary" here.
See Downloading OVA Templates for UC Applications for more information on how to download OVA templates for UC Applications.
For Specifications-based deployments, please note both the CPU core count AND the CPU core speed both of which correspond to physical CPU cores and physical CPU core speeds.

For the larger 300GB or 500 GB disks, the datastore where the Connection virtual machine will reside must be formatted with a VMware VMFS block size of 2MB or more. A block size of 1MB limits the maximum virtual hard disk size to 256GB. A block size of 2MB allows 512GB virtual disks. Requires reserving one physical core per physical server - see co-residency policy. Limits for Standalone Configuration:
