Introduction

Similar to EIGRP stub routing, the SAF stub feature helps improve scalability and network stability by allowing stub networks to learn services while advertising either (1) locally published services or (2) no services at all.

The configuration examples below demonstrate how to configure SAF stub forwarders that both learn services while one advertises locally published services and the other no services at all.

Q: Does the SAF stub feature need to be configured on both distribution and stub routers?

A: The SAF stub feature only needs to be configured on the stub router(s). Use the related show command below on the distribution router(s) to verify that a remote router(s) has been configured as a SAF stub.

To verify that a remote router has been configured as a SAF forwarder with the SAF stub feature, use the show ip eigrp service-family ipv4 neighbor detail command from the distribution router in privileged EXEC mode. The last line of the output will show the stub status of the remote or spoke router.

The following example output is from the show ip eigrp service-family ipv4 neighbor detail command issued on a distribution router:
