Helper Address

Definition

A helper address forwards UDP-based client protocol requests.

Details

The UDP-based protocols that can use helper addresses are TFTP, DNS, BOOTP server, BOOTP client, NetBIOS name server, and DHCP. The most common use of the helper address is IP address assignment by remote DHCP servers.
