Desktop: Gadget preferences do not persist after browser restart

Problem Summary Restarting the browser after using the gadgets.Prefs API to set a gadget pref value causes the value to be lost.
Error Message None
Possible Cause In Internet Explorer, the setting to clear cookies on exit is enabled. Clearing the browser cookies in Internet Explorer clears the gadget preferences. This is a known issue in Internet Explorer 8.0.
Recommended Action

Disable the option for deleting browsing history on exit in Internet Explorer.

  1. From the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, choose Internet Options.
  2. On the General tab, under Browsing history, clear the Delete browsing history on exit check box.
