About Extended ASCII Character Support
Before Directory Services Release 5.3, Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services did not support US ASCII characters with numeric values greater than 127. Extended ASCII characters (values greater than 127) were "escaped" into a compatible form, as shown in the example in Table A-1:
Table: ASCII Example
| Character | ASCII value | Value assigned by Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services |
|---|---|---|
|
é |
130 |
\C3\A9 (UTF-8 equivalent of é) |
Directory Services now supports a limited number of ASCII characters with values greater than 127. These characters will not be escaped and appear correctly. Supported characters are listed in Table: Supported Single Byte Extended ASCII Characters.
Note: Extended ASCII characters are stored as UTF-8 on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server. Applications that are not UTF-8 compatible will not display these characters correctly.
Supported Single Byte Extended ASCII Characters
Note: Directory Services does not support multi-byte characters.
The new reverse mapping code in Directory Services supports the single byte extended ASCII characters that are identified in Table A-2.

Activating Extended ASCII Character Support
Caution! Extended ASCII character support is not activated by default. You must activate this feature before using Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services to import user profiles that contain extended characters, or the characters will not import correctly.
To Activate Extended ASCII Character Support
Before exporting users with extended characters to the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system, apply the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services Plug-in function (Plug-in functions) StringExtASCII on parameters that can contain extended characters (such as First/Last name).
