Installing an application upgrade or patch is similar to installing a new system. You can install an application upgrade or patch using the console or SSH.


Caution! Your system may display a message stating that it does not have enough disk space to install the upgrade. This may be caused by having too many earlier releases on the server. Contact Cisco TAC for information on freeing up disk space on the system.

Installing an Upgrade or Patch Using the Console

To use the console to install an upgrade or patch, follow these steps. All steps apply to both upgrades and patches unless specifically noted.


Procedure
  1. Go to Cisco.com and find the upgrade or patch file. The naming convention will be similar to patch_mpe_1_1_1.bin or upgrade_mpe_1_2.bin.
  2. Save the file to a convenient location.
  3. From the console, go to the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express operating system login page and log in as the user called root.
    Note: See the Configuration and Maintenance Guide for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express Release 2.x for complete information about logging in to the console.
  4. Right-click on the desktop and select New Terminal. This brings up the command line.
  5. Navigate to the directory where you saved the upgrade or patch file.
  6. Enter sh patch_mpe_1_1_1.bin & to execute the program. The Install GUI displays the Introduction page.
    Note: Enter the actual name of the upgrade or patch file, instead of "patch_mpe_1_1_1.bin" which is just an example.
  7. Click Next.
  8. For upgrades only: The system displays the Upgrade Available dialog box and checks to see if a previous version of Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express is installed. If the system finds a previous version of Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express, the system displays a message stating this. Click Upgrade to begin the upgrade.
  9. The Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express installer displays the licensing agreement. After reading the licensing agreement, select I accept the terms of the License Agreement and click Next.
  10. Review the pre-installation summary. Values include the product name, install folder, and the amount of disk space required and available for the installation target.
  11. If all the values are correct, click Install.


The Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express installer installs the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express upgrade or patch.


When the upgrade or patch installation is complete, the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express installer displays the Install Complete page and a message stating that the upgrade or patch installation is complete.


Installing an Upgrade or Patch Remotely

To install an application upgrade or patch to Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express remotely using SSH, follow these steps. All steps apply to both upgrades and patches unless specifically noted.


Procedure
  1. Go to Cisco.com and find the upgrade or patch file. The naming convention will be similar to patch_mpe_1_1_1.bin or upgrade_mpe_1_2.bin.
  2. Save the file to a convenient, local location.
  3. Using an SSH client, log in as the user called mpxadmin.
    Note: See the Configuration and Maintenance Guide for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express Release 2.x for complete information about logging in using SSH.
  4. Change to the root user by entering su - and enter the root password.
  5. Transfer the upgrade or patch file to Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express using SCP file transfer.
  6. From the CLI, navigate to the directory where you saved the upgrade or patch file.
  7. To initiate the upgrade process, enter sh ./patch_mpe_1_1_1.bin -i console.
    Note: Enter the actual name of the upgrade or patch file, instead of "patch_mpe_1_1_1.bin" which is just an example.
  8. The installer displays an introduction message. Press Enter to continue.
  9. For upgrades only: The system checks to see if a previous version of Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express is installed. If the system finds a previous version of Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express, the system displays a message stating this. Press Enter to begin the upgrade.
  10. The installer displays the licensing agreement. After reading the licensing agreement, press Enter to select I accept the terms of the License Agreement.
  11. Review the pre-installation summary. Values include the product name, install folder, and the amount of disk space required and available for the installation target. If all the values are correct, press Enter to begin the installation.


The Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express installer installs the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express upgrade or patch.


When the upgrade or patch installation is complete, the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express installer displays the Install Complete page and a message stating that the upgrade or patch installation is complete.
