Reviewing System Requirements
Before installing the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server, read:
The Cisco Media Convergence Server (MCS)
The Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server is installed on a Cisco Media Convergence Server (MCS). You may also install it on a server from a different manufacturer if it has identical technical specifications to the Cisco MCS.
For complete information about installing the Cisco MCS, see the documentation at this location: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/voiceapp/ps378/prod_installation_guides_list.html.
Reviewing Duplex Setting Requirements
Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Release 7.1 supports the following Ethernet port settings:
- Application Server: Auto/Auto (Speed/Duplex)
- Ethernet Switch Port (must be a Gigabit switchport): Auto/Auto (Speed/Duplex)
- Result: Auto-negotiated to Gigabit/Full
Gathering Installation Values
Gather and record the information in Table: Installation Values to prepare for your installation of the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server.
Caution! Be sure these are the correct values for system. It is difficult to change most of these values after the initial installation.
Table: Installation Values
Field | Format | Step |

|
ddd.ddd.ddd.ddd1 You must have a valid DNS service configuration for the correct operation of the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system. You can test your DNS service by entering on the command-line interface, ping <DNS_IP_Address>. You should get a response in under 200 milliseconds.

Speed (Full Duplex)
|
Note: If you choose 1000 Mbps, you must set auto negotiation to On. |
|
Mail Server
Note: This is not the same as the mail server that you set in the Administration Center. |
| |
Duplex mode
Note: You cannot set the duplex mode during the operating system configuration. By default, it is set to full duplex. If you need to change the duplex mode, change it during the application installation. |
Note: When transmitting voice across a data network, half duplex can cause packet collisions, which can result in degraded voice quality. Therefore, full duplex is the recommended choice in all cases. Half duplex should only be used when no full duplex switch port is available, and then only at a speed of 1000 Mbps.
