Up one level: Planning Your Deployment
Licenses enable specific features and capabilities on the system. You purchase license SKUs with your Cisco Unified MeetingPlace order and install the license file for that order to enable the features and capabilities that you purchased. You may also upgrade your system by purchasing and installing additional licenses.
Use the information in this section to determine if you need to purchase and install additional licenses.
Note: Meetings that use Cisco WebEx do not use Cisco Unified MeetingPlace web licenses.

Limitations for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Licenses
- You cannot install more video licenses than voice licenses.
- You can install more licenses than your hardware can support; that is, you can manually override the system capacity. This is for your convenience when upgrading your system, so that you can upgrade the number of licenses before you physically upgrade your hardware. However, every time you restart the system with this configuration, the system will generate an alarm.
- To avoid generating an alarm, change the values for the Override System Capacity parameters on the Meeting Configuration page in the Administration Center so that the licensed capacity matches the physical capacity. The system will use the values you enter when calculating the capacity for scheduling. Correctly configuring these values will also prevent inadvertent meeting extension failures caused by mismatches between licensed and actual resource values.
- Node must be active to add licenses.
License Expiration
- By default, every Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system comes with six trial voice licenses, six trial web licenses, and six trial video licenses. If you do not purchase additional licenses, the six trial web licenses expire after 60 days.
- All licenses used for customer demonstration purposes expire.
- The system does not consider the expiration date of a license when users schedule meetings; instead, the system checks and enforces the expiration date when users join meetings.
