Up one level: Planning Your Deployment

Licenses enable specific features and capabilities on the system. You purchase license SKUs with your Cisco Unified MeetingPlace order and install the license file for that order to enable the features and capabilities that you purchased. You may also upgrade your system by purchasing and installing additional licenses.

Use the information in this section to determine if you need to purchase and install additional licenses.

Note: Meetings that use Cisco WebEx do not use Cisco Unified MeetingPlace web licenses.

Limitations for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Licenses

  • You cannot install more video licenses than voice licenses.
  • You can install more licenses than your hardware can support; that is, you can manually override the system capacity. This is for your convenience when upgrading your system, so that you can upgrade the number of licenses before you physically upgrade your hardware. However, every time you restart the system with this configuration, the system will generate an alarm.
To avoid generating an alarm, change the values for the Override System Capacity parameters on the Meeting Configuration page in the Administration Center so that the licensed capacity matches the physical capacity. The system will use the values you enter when calculating the capacity for scheduling. Correctly configuring these values will also prevent inadvertent meeting extension failures caused by mismatches between licensed and actual resource values.
  • Node must be active to add licenses.
  • The maximum number of port licenses that you can apply is 2,000 per license.

License Expiration

  • By default, every Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system comes with six trial voice licenses, six trial web licenses, and six trial video licenses. If you do not purchase additional licenses, the six trial web licenses expire after 60 days.
  • All licenses used for customer demonstration purposes expire.
  • The system does not consider the expiration date of a license when users schedule meetings; instead, the system checks and enforces the expiration date when users join meetings.

License Descriptions

Table: Licenses for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Release 7.0 describes the available licenses for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Release 7.0.

Table: Licenses for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Release 7.0
License Description Type
Conferencing Licenses

videoconf

The videoconf license limits the number of concurrent video participants in meetings. The available number of video ports may be further limited by the maxvideo license.

If you do not install the videoconf license, the system can use only the six trial video ports for meetings. (A port is defined as a single video caller connecting at any rate.)

counted

voiceconf

The voiceconf license limits the number of concurrent voice participants in meetings, including:

  • Calls to and from the system
  • Voice participants in meetings

The available number of voice ports may be further limited by the maxvoice license.

If you do not install the voiceconf license, the system can use only the six trial voice ports for premium (scheduled) meetings.

counted

webconf

The webconf license limits the number of concurrent participants using the full web meeting room. This number may be further limited by the maxweb license.

Note: If you want all or most users to be able to schedule full web meetings, install an equal number of voice ports and web ports through the voiceconf and webconf licenses.

If you do not install the webconf license, the system can use only the six trial web ports, which expire 60 days after system installation. If you purchase a base software SKU, your order comes with a trial webconf license that makes the six trial web ports permanent after you install the license.

counted

Maximum Licenses

maxvideo

The maxvideo license denotes the maximum number of video licenses that can be used for meetings on this particular system. If the videoconf license count exceeds the value of the maxvideo license, the system uses the value of the maxvideo license instead.

Restriction: If you purchase and install a new maxvideo license, it overwrites the old one. The new port count is not added to the previous port count.

counted

maxvoice

The maxvoice license denotes the maximum number of voice licenses that can be used for meetings on this particular system. If the voiceconf license count exceeds the value of the maxvoice license, the system uses the value of the maxvoice license instead.

The system displays any maxvoice license limitations in the Comment field on the Licenses Summary page.

Restriction: If you purchase and install a new maxvoice license, it overwrites the old one. The new port count is not added to the previous port count.
