Cisco Unified MeetingPlace, Release 6.x > Web Conferencing > Configuring > Configuring the Web Conferencing Server



The Web Server administrative page allows you to configure local web servers. This includes enabling Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), Web Server Authentication, and configuring denial-of-service handling, which provides for better performance at the capacity threshold of the server.

Changing the IP Address for the NICs on the Web Server

Follow these steps to change the IP addresses on an existing Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Server.

Restriction

  • Change the IP address for BOTH network interface card (NICs) at the same time.


Before You Begin

  • Record the current Cisco Unified MeetingPlace gateway configuration settings. Make a note of where it is using an Audio Server hostname or an IP address. If you do not do this, you will not be able to reconfigure the gateway after you have performed this procedure and the gateway will not connect to the Audio Server.
  • Please make sure that network administrators have updated DNS records in accordance with the new configuration.


Procedure

  1. Stop all Cisco Unified MeetingPlace services.
  2. Stop the Cisco MeetingPlace Gateway SIM service.
  3. Delete the connection to the existing Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server from the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Gateway configuration tool (shown as an orange door in the system tray).
  4. Add a new connection to the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server, using the new client IP address.
  5. Restart the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing service and wait for all child services to start.
  6. Wait for the end user web to become responsive.
  7. Sign in as the administrator by selecting Home > Administration > Web Server.
  8. Click on the name of the existing Web Server in the lower part of the page. The system loads the Web Server details in the upper part of the page.
  9. Change the "Hostname [Home Page]" and "Hostname [Web Conferencing]" to the new IP addresses. (The new IP addresses should already appear inside parentheses.)
  10. Click Submit.
  11. Sign out.
  12. Restart the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing service, and wait for the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Server to become accessible.

Inserting a Logo on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing Home Page

You can use this procedure to insert either a company logo or a blank logo on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing home page.


Before You Begin
  • Locate a logo 148 x 65 pixels or less and save it as logo.gif. A smaller logo works in this space, but a larger one results in the content of the page shifting to the right.
  • (Optional) If you do not want to include a logo on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing home page, create a blank file 148 x 65 pixels and save it as logo.gif.


To Insert a Logo on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing Home Page
  1. Copy the logo.gif file into drive:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\MPWeb\Images.


The logo you inserted appears on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing home page the next time you open your web browser.


Configuring the Web Server

This section contains parameters specific to the web server that you are configuring.

To Configure the Web Server
  1. Sign in to Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing.
  2. From the Welcome page, click Admin , then click Web Server .
  3. From the bottom section of the page, click the name of the web server that you want to configure.
    This populates the top section of the page with predefined settings.
  4. Modify your parameters by using information in the following table.


Parameter Description Options or Notes

Web Server Name

The name assigned to this web server.

This field was populated during the web server software installation

Hostname [Home Page]

The hostname, FQDN, or IP address used to connect to the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing Home page.


If this field contains just the hostname of your web server, we recommend that you change it to the FQDN, that is, hostname.domain.com . If your web server is not in a Domain Name System (DNS), insert the IP address instead.

Note: Do not set this parameter to the same value as the Hostname [Web Conferencing].

Note: To use SSL, you must change this value from the default IP address to either hostname or FQDN.

Note: Entering an IP address or FQDN will prevent proper functionality of the Windows authentication feature. For further information about this issue and workarounds, see the Troubleshooting Problems with Windows Authentication.

Note: Verify that intended users can resolve this hostname or IP address.

Note: Make sure that you can resolve the hostnames for Home Page and Web Conferencing on the web server machine. If the hostnames cannot be resolved by the DNS Server, these entries should be added to the local hosts file. Otherwise, users may experience trouble when trying to share attachments in the meeting room.

This field was populated during the web server software installation with the first IP address assigned in the Operating System

Hostname [Web Conferencing]

The hostname, FQDN, or IP address used to connect Flash clients to the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing meeting console.


If this field contains just the hostname of your web server, we recommend that you change it to the FQDN, that is, hostname.domain.com . If your web server is not in a Domain Name System (DNS), insert the IP address instead.

Note: Do not set this parameter to the same value as the Hostname [Home Page].

Note: To use SSL, you must change this value from the default IP address to either hostname or FQDN.

Note: You must restart the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing services for changes to this field to take effect. For instructions, see the Restarting All Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing Services.

Note: Verify that intended users can resolve this hostname or IP address.

Note: Make sure that you can resolve the hostnames for Home Page and Web Conferencing on the web server machine. If the hostnames cannot be resolved by the DNS Server, these entries should be added to the local hosts file. Otherwise, users may experience trouble when trying to share attachments in the meeting room.

This field was populated during the web server software installation with the second IP address assigned in the Operating System

Require SSL

Determines whether this web server is configured for Secure Socket Layer (SSL) connections. For more information on SSL, see the How to Configure Secure Sockets Layer.

Yes or No

Trust Web Server Authentication

Determines whether this web server accepts authenticated Windows login information to automatically log in to Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing.

Yes or No

Include Attachments In Make New Meeting

Determines whether attachments from the original meeting will be copied to the new meeting when using the Copy Meeting feature.


Choosing No forces users to reattach all attachments when creating their meetings.

Yes or No

Max Concurrent Web Conference Users

Sets the maximum number of concurrent web conference users that are allowed on this server.

Note: Setting this parameter to the highest level on a machine with inadequate hardware results in poor user performance.

Enter a number between 0 and 500.

Performance Tuning

Choose the setting that best describes your conferencing environment. This optimizes your web server based on the number of potential concurrent web conferencing users (versus users who may not be using the conferencing portion, such as administrators who only schedule meetings).

Note: Setting this parameter to the highest level on a machine with inadequate hardware results in poor user performance.

Fewer than 75 users, Fewer than 150 users, or More than 150 users

Use Intelligent Load Algorithm

Choosing Yes allows the web server to accept participants based on a load algorithm. Users attempting to enter the meeting are requested to stand by while their request is processed. Choosing No defaults the web server to accept all requests simultaneously. If the server is busy or the Max Concurrent Web Conference Users limit is reached, users are told that the server is busy and are asked to try again.

Verbose Logging

Determines whether detailed entries will be logged to the Gateway SIM log.


Recommended To enhance performance, choose No.

5. Click Submit .

6. (Optional) To configure which options are available on your local web server, continue with the Customizing Local Web Server Options.


Customizing Local Web Server Options

As a system administrator, you can customize the features that are available on the local web server for your end users. The customizations you choose override functionality that is normally allowed by individual class of service or meeting console permissions.


For information about end-user features, see the online Help in the web conferencing console or the web meeting room.

To Customize Web Server Options
  1. Sign in to Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing.
  2. From the Welcome page, click Admin , then click Web Server .
  3. From the "View" section of the page, click the name of the web server that you want to configure.
    This populates the "Edit" section of the page with predefined settings.
  4. Configure the web server by using the information in the following table.
    • To enable a feature, choose Yes .
    • To disable a feature, choose No .
    • To synchronize a feature on a web server that you are configuring with other web servers in the same site, choose Site Default .
    Note: You can configure site information on the Site administration page.


Parameter Description

Allow Profile Access

Determines whether users see the Account link on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Conferencing home page.


The Account link provides users with access to their profile information.

Allow Admission of External Participants

Determines whether this web server allows users with appropriate meeting console permissions to escalate a meeting in progress from the internal web server to an external web server to allow external participants to join.

Allow Chat In Meeting Console

Determines whether the chat window is available in the meeting console.

Allow Public Meetings in Find Meeting List

Determines whether public meetings are listed when users use the Find Meetings search engine.


If you choose No, the search engine displays only the meetings scheduled by the searcher or meetings that the searcher has been invited to by profile.


Default Yes.

Allow Guest Access to Find Meetings Page

Determines whether guest users (that is, users who do not have Cisco Unified MeetingPlace profiles) have access to the Find Meetings page.

Note: To make sure that guest users can use the Find Meetings feature, set both the "Allow Public Meetings in Find Meeting List" and "Allow Guest Access to Find Meetings Page" parameters to Yes .

Purge Meetings Held Before (Days)

This parameter exists only in Maintenance Release 2 and earlier. In Maintenance Release 3 and later, the "Days until mtg stats purged" parameter in MeetingTime controls all purge activity. See About Managing User Access.


Determines how long meeting information is held in the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace web server database before it is purged.


Default 60 days.

Allow Remember Me

Determines whether the Remember Me check box appears on the Web Conferencing Sign In page.


Remember Me stores user passwords as a cookie for future Web Conferencing sessions.

Remember Me Expiration Interval (Days)

Specifies the number of days Remember Me is valid. If you enter 0, Remember Me never expires.


Default 90

Allow Show Moderator Cursors

Controls who can see the cursors that represent the mouse movements by each moderator in the meeting console, and when they can be seen. The choices are:

  • Off
  • Show Only to Other Moderators
  • Show to All Participants
  • Show to All Participants when using a Whiteboard

Default Off.


5. Click Submit .
