Prerequisite

The Cisco router needs to have a Cisco IOS image that is compatible with Cisco AXP. For further information on where to download a Cisco IOS software image suitable for Cisco AXP, refer to the System Requirements section of the Release Notes for Cisco AXP.

Downloading and Installing Cisco AXP OS

Note: To install Cisco AXP software you will need an IP address or name of an FTP server for the downloaded Cisco AXP package files.

Downloading Cisco AXP OS

Go to cisco.com

Select Support > Download Software > Products > Routers > Other Routing Products > Cisco Application Extension Platform > Cisco Application Extension Platform Version 1.6


Example:

Select Application Extension Platform for SRE > Application Extension Platform Installation Packages

Click 1.6.1 on the left hand side

Click Download Now for axp-k9.sme.1.6.1.tar.gz

Accept License Agreement

Click Download Now for either the AXP OS or AXP SDK. The first Download Software screen appears.

Enter the requested user information and accept the license agreement.

Download Cisco AXP SDK

Example:

Select Application Extension Platform for SRE > Application Extension Platform Software Development Packages

Click 1.6.1 on the left hand side

Click Download Now for axp-sdk.1.6.1.tar.gz

Download Software screens appear.

Uncompress/Extract Cisco AXP Files

Uncompress the tar file that you downloaded in step Downloading Cisco AXP OS

Note If you choose to use a file extractor tool designed for Windows, such as WinZip, you must disable CR/LF conversion of tar files. (For example, in WinZip 9.0, select Configuration > Miscellaneous and uncheck "TAR file smart CR/LF conversion".)

Verify that the FTP server is accessible.

Copy Files to the FTP server

All files to be installed on the AXP service module must be in the same directory on the FTP server.

For installing software using the software install clean command, copy the following files to the directory on the FTP server:

  • axp-k9.<platform>.<version>.pkg
  • axp-k9.<platform>.<version>.prt1
  • axp-installer-k9.<platform>.<version>.prt1
  • axp-timezone.<platform>.<version>.pkg
  • axp-timezone.<platform>.<version>.prt1

OR

For installing software on Cisco SRE (ISM/SM modules only), copy the following files to the directory on the FTP server:

  • axp-k9.<platform>.<version>.pkg
  • axp-k9.<platform>.<version>.prt1
  • axp-installer-k9.<platform>.<version>.prt1
  • axp-timezone.<platform>.<version>.pkg
  • axp-timezone.<platform>.<version>.prt1
  • axp-k9.sme.<version>.pkg.install.sre.header
  • axp-k9.sme.<version>.pkg.install.sre
  • axp-k9.sme.<version>.key
  • axp-helper-k9.sme.<version>

Installing Cisco AXP Software

Install software using one of the following procedures:

Installing Cisco AXP software on Cisco ISM-SRE and SM-SRE modules

Installing AXP on SRE Modules

Installing Cisco AXP software using the "software install clean" command

Installing AXP using "software install clean"
